Internship at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (Germany)
The Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS) offers research internships to exceptional undergraduate and graduate students. Interns are expected to tackle new and challenging research problems in close collaboration with graduate students and faculty from the institute. Successful internships often result in co-authored publications at major academic conferences. Internship positions are limited and admissions are very competitive.
Interns are welcomed throughout the year, but most interns prefer the summer months. Each intern works directly with an assigned teaching mentor. Internship projects are based on the intern's academic interests, maturity, and previous experience. A typical internship lasts 12-14 weeks, but longer internships are possible.
Coverage items:
All interns receive a monthly stipend, free (shared) accommodation, and travel to and from the institute organizing the internship.
Application Deadlines for Summer Internships:
First installment: December 31 (for internships from May or June)
Second installment: January 31 (for internships from July or August)
For an internship starting at any other time, apply at least 4 months before the planned start date.

Travel restrictions due to COVID-19
Travel restrictions due to the current COVID-19 pandemic may prevent interns from traveling to Germany at this time. In such a case, the intern and mentor can agree to do the internship remotely. The intern will continue to be paid the monthly stipend.
