COIL and mirror classes

(call for teachers)

While the global health situation presented new challenges for international mobility, it also gave rise to new forms of online cooperation. Although we are returning to in-person classes in the September 2021 - February 2022 term, our department wants to continue promoting internationalization opportunities at home, particularly for students from abroad. COIL y mirror classes, so that international experiences continue to be available to the entire university community.

COIL is a system that allows teachers at HEIs in different countries to carry out joint projects with collaborative tasks for their students within their subjects for a few weeks (usually 4 to 8). The subjects of the two universities are not required to be from the same study area, they can be interdisciplinary projects. We attach the explanatory video with more information about this type of project.

mirror classes They assume that the teacher from our university teaches one or more classes in virtual format at the foreign university, while the foreign teacher teaches one or more classes at the UDA, or the two teachers teach the class together.

Benefits of participating:

  • training of global citizens with better knowledge of the realities of other countries
  • expansion of its international network of contacts for future cooperation, linking and research
  • international experience without leaving home, accessible to all teachers and students
  • certificate for all participants from our department

How to participate?

For any of the aforementioned activities, only two teachers from different countries are required to be interested. In addition to your agreements with the foreign teacher, it does not require any major commitment, such as changes in the syllabus. You can follow these steps to participate:

  • If you have contacts in any foreign university, you can carry out the COIL projects or mirror classes directly with them and comment to us so that we can prepare the certificates. For COIL, mirror classes and joint research we do not need to have agreements with other universities.
  • If you want to participate, but you do not have contacts abroad, check the proposals of foreign universities that we have available at this time:

If there are no proposals for your area among the mentioned competitions, write to us at convocatoriaRI@uazuay.edu.ec and we will help you find a peer university. In the same way, we are available to answer any questions and provide you with all the necessary support.

Certificates

We issue organizer / participant / assistant certificates to everyone involved in COIL projects and mirror classes, including foreign participants. To receive the certificates, before the end of the project, send us the following information:

  • Name of the project and in which UDA subject you are doing it
  • Name and country of the peer university
  • Project start and end dates, duration in hours (for mirror classes)

Also, please attach an excel table with 4 tabs (UDA teacher (s), UDA students, foreign teacher (s), foreign students) with the following data of all participants in each tab (each point in a separate column) :

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email
  • ID / Passport number (make sure the data format in this column is "Text", so that the numbers that start with zero appear correctly)

If you have already participated in a COIL project or mirror classes in previous cycles, but you still do not have the certificate, you can still send us the data.
