Letter of Motivation

Several calls for scholarships, exchanges and internships request a letter of motivation as part of their application requirements. It is important to remember that a Motivation Letter is not the same as a Curriculum Vitae, what you write must be related to the target University and / or the program to which you are applying. Why should they choose you?

Below are some guidelines and ideas to follow in order to write a successful motivation letter. These are only a guide, but not a straitjacket. It is up to you to add or change these guidelines.

    Structure:

    • Dear / Dear
    • Explain what you are applying to
    • Thank for the opportunity to write the letter.
    • Explain the reason why studying at said university or in said program would be beneficial for your career.
    • Explain how your presence in said University / Institution will enrich the environment in some way.
    • Share details about the career you study and the tools you have developed.
    • If you have worked, you can mention it and how much it has helped you in one or another area in your life.
    • Mention those extracurricular activities that you have done, what you have learned from them and why they will help you if you are selected for the scholarship.
    • To show understanding that to go through the desired program will be a challenge and explain how you will be able to overcome it successfully.
    • Evidence that you are a dedicated person and you can work in a group.
    • Repeat the thanks.
    • Firm.

Finally, make sure you take care of the style of the document, choose the size and type of font correctly. Do not load it with colors or figures.

    Luck!
